No matter where you go in the world, the expectation of romance on Valentine’s Day will follow. Koh Samui is the perfect setting for a wedding proposal, an anniversary, a belated honeymoon or just because you want some time away with your loved one.

Most of the best of Koh Samui can be enjoyed as a couple, but here are a few things that might be specifically tailored to couples and romance.

Couples’ Massage

Start the day in blissful luxury in one of the island’s many spa resorts, or add a panoramic view by getting a couples massage on the beach. One popular place is Zazen Boutique Resort (taken from the Japanese word for “to find inner peace”) where couples enjoy a three hour treatment which includes a healing hot stones massage for her and a four hands massage for him, followed by anti-aging facials for both. The Cyan Spa in the Fisherman’s Village, Bophut, is also a popular destination with a wide variety of treatments and a Jacuzzi overlooking Bophut Bay and Koh Phangan. Good Thai massages are available anywhere on the island and most resorts will offer a package massage for two people. That said, a side-by-side massage on the beach is just as good, and possibly cheaper than a resort. Some cheeky masseuses will even insist you hold hands during the treatment.

Sunset Cruise

Cruises are a good way of exploring Koh Samui and nearby islands by sea, but under the gentle glow of the setting sun they take on a more romantic allure. The Red Baron, a traditional sailing junk yacht, departs from The Fisherman’s Village every Monday and Friday at 4:30pm for the Romantic Sunset Dinner Cruise. It sails along all the beaches of Koh Samui and offers a dinner buffet on board while the sun gently dips below the horizon. The Samui Ocean Sports and Yacht Centre also has skippered sailing yachts that can be chartered for a sunset cruise. The Viva 2 and the Sanora in particular are perfect for a couple of people (maybe on their honeymoon). Both include drinks, snacks and pit stops for swimming and snorkelling.

Places to Eat

No romantic evening is complete without an delicious dinner to either start or compliment the whole experience. There are many good restaurants to suit budget, taste in food or desired atmosphere. These options, however, may make the evening extra special. Located near to Big Buddha, Le Jaroen French/Thai fusion restaurant is like stepping into the colonial era. The restaurant is set amongst a turn-of-the-century Oriental aromatic products trading company, several European, Chinese and Local colonial style buildings and is surrounded by frangipani trees, hanging Chinese lanterns and overlooks the palm-tree lined beach. Clearly, the location is perfect, but the food is the main attraction on a romantic evening. The mouth-watering Butter Poached Atlantic Lobster comes very highly recommended. It is servedwith Granny Smith green apple and fennel presse plus strawberry gazpacho. Diners have also raved about the Wagyu Beef Cheeks braised for 6 hours with a Port wine sherry vinegar glaze, celery root pistachio mousseline and young vegetables. Those are just two of the delicious dishes on the menu for the perfect Valentine’s dinner.

Once in a Blue Moon

As the name suggests, a dining experience like this does not come around very often. Brought to you by the team at Four Seasons Resort, Koh Samui, this is that rare, perfect moment to show someone how much you love them. It is a table for two set on a secluded beach accessible only by boat or secret staircase, under the shade of the palm trees whilst the gentle crashing of the waves serenades you. The only light you’ll see is from the moon, the stars, the candles and the tiki torches. The menu is designed by executive chef, Alex Garés, and there are options of Thai or Western cuisine, served by a personal butler. The evening ends with the couple releasing floating lanterns into the sky for good fortune.

Discover stunning scenery, palm fringed beaches, world-class spas and so much more on a Koh Samui vacation in 2016. Here’s a round-up of the best things to see and do during your trip…

Chaweng Beach photo courtesy of kohsamui.com

Beaches Galore

Koh Samui is home to some of the best beaches in the world, each offering something slightly different from the next. Chaweng and Lamai on the east side are the liveliest with an array of activities and entertainment to enjoy both day and night. The northern beaches of Big Buddha, Bo Phut, Choeng Mon and Mae Nam are more peaceful, boasting an abundance of tropical island charm. To the island’s south and west coast are numerous deserted bays to explore, so wherever you stay on a Koh Samui vacation in 2016, you’ll find a beach for every mood.

Erotic Rocks

Known locally as Hin Ta and Hin Yai the world-famous Grandmas and Grandpa rocks in Koh Samui draw crowds from far and wide. These fascinating erotic rock formations have been carved by the current to resemble male and female genitalia! Local lore has it that the rocks were formed when a couple were shipwrecked and washed ashore here. This area is one of the most photographed places in Koh Samui and is well worth a visit during your Samui villa holiday.

Bophut Fisherman’s Village

Located along the middle section of Bophut Beach this is one of the islands most popular tourist hotspots. Lined with elegant boutiques, bars, restaurants, dive stores and more, the area boasts a sophisticated and distinctly Mediterranean vibe. Bophut is situated between Big Buddha and Maenam beaches, within easy reach of villa rentals in Koh Samui.

Ang Thong National Marine Park

This exquisite archipelago of islands can be seen from many Samui villas and should top the list of things to do during your Koh Samui vacation. Here you will find towering limestone mountains, dense jungle, powder white beaches, waterfalls, mangroves, caves and more to explore. This protected area of land and sea is home to a rich variety of exotic plants, animals and fish and is ideal for swimming, snorkelling, diving, hiking and sunbathing. Ang Thong can be easily reached by boat from Koh Samui.

The Mummified Monk

The island’s mummified monk at the Wat Khunaram temple attracts visitors from across the globe in search of traditional Thai culture. Located away from the crowds the temple is famous for the mummified corpse of monk Loung Pordaeng kept on display there. Laid in a glass coffin surrounded by flowers and fruit offerings, locals believe the monk is a symbol of peace and sanctity.

Spas, Shopping, Snake Farms and More!

Need any more reasons to book a Koh Samui vacation in 2016? This diverse holiday hotspot attracts visitors from across the globe who come to experience its world-class cuisine, great shopping offerings, luxuriant spas and great golf at the Santiburi Samui Country Club. Other don’t-miss attractions include the famous Samui Snake Farm, the magical Purple Waterfalls, Samui’s renowned cabaret shows, Buddhist temples, elephant trekking, water sports and so much more.

There’s no better way to celebrate in style than with Christmas in Koh Samui. Mid-way through December the rainy season subsides to give way to all day sunshine. Some of the celebrations here may not be so different to usual family traditions. Here are some of the best things to do to celebrate Christmas in Koh Samui.

Angela’s Bakery and Cafe

Angela’s Bakery in Maenam makes fresh mince pies, which are so popular that phoning ahead is necessary to avoid disappointment.

This is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious Christmas breakfast. The day can start with freshly baked scones and bagels, pancakes or even a full English breakfast.

Lunch can be a selection of sandwiches in order to tide everyone over while saving space for dinner. Angela’s is located at Samui Ring Road, 64/29 Moo 1, Tambon Mae Nam. For more information, why not check out Angela’s Facebook page here.

Poppies

Poppies restaurant is renowned for fine Thai and international cuisine in a romantic tropical garden and seaside setting.

Guests can choose to dine under the stars, by the sea or in an Ayuthaya-style teak pavilion overlooking the pool. Poppies is the perfect destination for a Chrsitmas celebration, although reservations in advance are needed for Christmas dinner.

Complimentary eggnog is served upon entry – some can be served without brandy so no one misses out. A traditional dinner of butterball turkey with dried apricot and pecan nut stuffing is accompanied by chipolatas wrapped in bacon, fresh vegetables, a choice of roast or mashed potato and either gravy or cranberry sauce.

They even serve Christmas pudding. Every tradition is honoured on this beachfront restaurant. Booking and info.

SALA Samui

In addition to the traditional turkey, SALA Samui offers a seafood buffet to start, a dessert bar to finish and a separate children’s menu is available.

Guests are under the care of international chefs, live music by resident musician Mark James will play in the background and then the evening’s entertainment includes a Thai dance performance by the children of SALA Samui’s staff.

This is a fantastic way to combine some well-loved Christmas traditions with a touch of Thai culture.

Nikki Beach

For something a little more laid back, try going to Nikki Beach for a buffet lunch. The holiday favourites, such as turkey, are served, but dishes such as cottage pie and sushi are also on the menu.

The pool, the loud music and the signature Nikki Beach mojitos always attract a crowd, which means there will be at least 300 new people with whom to celebrate Christmas. Maybe plans could be made for New Year’s’ Eve with new friends!

Tesco -Lotus

Because Thailand is not a Christian country, Christmas is not observed as a national holiday.

This means that all the stores will remain open as usual. If your guests are in the mood for a laid back Christmas with all their favourite treat, visit Tesco-Lotus on Christmas Day to pick up candy canes, a good selection of cheeses and Christmas Pudding.

Christmas Villas in Koh Samui

Christmas in Koh Samui can be magical whether you head out or stay in the luxury of your Samui vacation home. Villa staff are on hand to prepare a Christmas dinner, whether you want turkey and all the trimmings, or a a Thai banquet – the choice is yours!

Our villas in Koh Samui offer everything you and your guests need for a celebration including large dining areas, indoor/outdoor living spaces and plenty of space for large groups.

There are various day trips to Ang Thong Marine Park that leave from Koh Samui, each with their own unique package deals, such as lunch, kayaking or snorkelling.

The park consists of 42 different islands, each with their own landscapes, caves and indigenous wildlife. A complete tour of the Ang Thong would actually take weeks due its sheer size and fascinating views. Here is a guide for how to make the most of one day at Ang Thong Marine Park.

Departure

After transferring from the villa to the pier, most tours will depart between 8am and 9am to make the most of the day. They will also a include a light breakfast of croissants, fruit and tea or coffee. If the tour is for specific activity, such as kayaking or scuba diving, they should also come with their own equipment. The best way to travel is by speedboat, as it only takes 45 minutes to reach the park this way.

Koh Mae Ko and Koh Wao

Upon arriving in Ang Thong, the tour boat will dock at either Koh Mae Ko or Koh Wao. Koh Mae Ko is known for its beautiful Emerald Lake, a saltwater lake surrounded by huge limestone cliffs. The Emerald Lake is a spectacular spot with a great view, which can only be reached by hiking up the steep cliffs, through its jungle terrain and squeezing through a deep crevice on the cliff. The reward is an amazing view of the entire Ang Thong archipelago. Swimming and diving is forbidden here

Koh Wao has beautiful turquoise blue water, coral reefs and coves – all these are the homes of interesting marine life, making this little island an excellent spot for snorkelling and diving. The coral is as diverse as the sea life in this crystal clear water. There will be something new for everyone to see.

Explore Ang Thong

Later in the morning, tours will dock at Ang Thong and leave tourists to explore the island. The ‘Golden Basin’ has steep limestone cliffs, some reaching over 400 metres in height, and features four distinct types of forest; dry evergreen, beach, limestone and Mangrove. Each forest is home to many different animals, such as monkeys, otters, eagles, iguanas, pythons and many many more. The surrounding sea is also home to marine life such as sea turtles and many colourful fish. This is a popular spot for snorkelling and swimming.

Lunch

The majority of tours will include lunch. This can vary from a buffet on the seafront or a traditional Thai meal on the tour boat as it cruises through the park. Fresh fruit is also included.

Koh Sam Sao

After lunch, some tours go on to Koh Sam Sao for kayaking. This island receives very few travellers so if the tour passes through here, visitors can enjoy unobstructed swimming, kayaking and snorkelling in the abundant coral reefs and hikers can explore the numerous caves and caverns, or climb up to the vantage points and enjoy the views.

Overnight Accommodation

After visiting a third island most tour boats will take everyone back to Koh Samui and transfer them back to their accommodation, but the fun need not end here. Koh Wua Talap is the island’s camping headquarters. It has six bungalows, which can be rented for 500 Baht per day (for a two bedroom cottage) and plenty of camping space. The cost of hiring a tent for two people is 250 Baht. Additionally, Koh Wua Talap has a restaurant, which is open from 7am until 10pm, a first aid tent and kayaks for rent if guests wish to continue exploring the islands.

The facilities at the island are very basic. Visitors should note that the electricity generator is switched off at 11pm, but it adds to the appeal of camping in a barely inhabited island. No reservations are required for camping but if guests wish to book a bungalow in advance, this can only be done via the Thai government website: http://www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/reservation.asp

All boats leaving the Ang Thong National Marine Park leave at 3pm daily. Overnight guests can leave by speedboat at 3pm the next day.

In Thailand there are more than 163 species of snake, over 900 types of birds, approximately 250 wild tigers and around 650 species of freshwater fish, just to name a few! A visit to Koh Samui is a chance to get to know not only the charming locals, but also some of the native animals that make this island such a unique and memorable holiday destination…

Paradise Park Farm

High in the mountains, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, lies Paradise Park Farm. This is one of the highest points in Koh Samui and the beautiful waterfalls, rivers, canyons and rainforest covering make it one of the most picturesque spots on the island.

Paradise Park Farm is home to several local animals such as ponies, deers and pygmy goats (which can be petted and fed), friendly monkeys and even Molly and Marcha, the bilingual parrots who will speak to you in either English or Thai! Additionally, the park has two on site restaurants and bars, a children’s playground, jungle and river walks and plenty of rest areas.

There is a swimming pool which can be enjoyed at no extra cost, but guests should bring their own towels. At only 800 Bahts for a visit to the park alone, this is one of the cheapest parks to visit, and it certainly keeps everyone entertained.

Butterfly Garden

This beautifully maintained tropical park is home to hundreds of butterflies, bees and moths. While visiting an insect habitat might not be high on everyone’s list of things to do in Koh Samui, the Butterfly Garden is a popular attraction with adults and children alike, and in particular with aspiring photographers.

Not only is this a breathtakingly gorgeous nature walk with waterfalls, lush tropical plant life and colourful flowers, it is an intriguing insight into insect life. The butterflies are unafraid of human contact and will happily land on walkers’ shoulders and heads, sometimes long enough to take a quick selfie.

Watching these little creatures flitter from flower to flower and sip at the nectar is a delightful experience. If there is a keeper nearby, they will be happy to answer any questions about the species and habits of each butterfly you see.

An insect museum at this location is an extra treat for enthusiasts and it is also a great place to purchase fresh honey made on-site by the bees seen on your walk.

Bannchang Elephant Park

Most tours offer elephant trekking as part of a package and it is understandably popular with tourists. Bannchang Elephant Park is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a good life for these majestic animals and rescuing elephants from bad conditions such as circuses.

The organisation is funded exclusively by visitors so the park ensures that your time is certainly worth your money. Instead of merely riding the elephants (although this is also an option) visitors are educated on elephant feeding, their daily habits, elephant’s body language and how the trainers create a relationship of respect with their charges.

Visitors will even have the opportunity to bathe, brush and feed their elephant and be taught basic riding skills. Certainly a more memorable and fulfilling experience than mere elephant trekking.

Koh Samui Tiger Zoo and Aquarium

There few other zoos in Koh Samui that offer such an up-close and personal experience as the Tiger Zoo and Aquarium. If visitors are not satisfied with seeing a large variety of sharks, manta rays and catfish, they can complete their marine encounters by feeding sea turtles.

If seeing Bengal tigers perform feats of agility is not thrilling enough, for a few extra Baht, visitors can have their picture taken with these impressive animals or even feed their cubs a bottle of milk.

There are even photo opportunities with owls, parrots and other exotic birds.

Ang Thong National Marine Park

The Ang Thong Marine Park offers more for the active visitor such as snorkelling, kayaking or diving in the clear blue sea, or hiking through the jungles, mountains and waterfalls.

Because it is such a large and undeveloped area, Ang Thong is home to a wide variety of marine life and wildlife – it is up to the visitors to see how many they can find. Bats, otters, sea eagles, hornbills, sea turtles and pythons are some of the wildlife occasionally seen in the forests.

Crabs, oysters, butterfly fish, sting rays and angelfish are but a few of the residents of the coral reefs.

The many animal attractions in Koh Samui are a great way to discover the island and learn more about the local wildlife. Our luxury villas in Koh Samui are easy to reach from anywhere on the island and offer the perfect base from which to head out and about.

History
Thailand is the hub of Buddhist culture and Koh Samui is certainly not short on grand and beautiful temples. The most popular ones are Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) on the north-east corner of the island, Wat Plai Leam nearby and Wat Khunaram, home to the mummified monk.

Big Buddha is known for its golden, 12 metre tall, seated Buddha statue, which can often be seen by people flying in to the island. It was built in 1972 and is a representation of a moment in a Buddha’s journey of enlightenment when he subdued the temptations and dangers beset on him by the devil by meditating and staying calm. The Wat Plai Leam is also a great feat of architecture, as this temple houses a towering statue of a white 18-arm image of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. This temple gives visitors a view of Chinese-Thai beliefs and showcases some Buddhist art and architecture.

Nightlife
Koh Samui boasts plenty of entertainment offerings, but the island is at its most lively after dark. Here you will find everything from exotic cabarets, thriving nightclubs and festive beach parties to beach bars, bbq’s, parades and much more.

The full moon party just a short boat ride away in Koh Phangan is an experience that should definitely not be missed. Chaweng Beach is the centre for many evening activities as it has the highest concentration of bars, club and beach parties in addition to being the home of three different cabaret venues. In Chaweng, the Soi Green Mango Street is the best place to find a club or a bar to start off a fun-filled evening. The Green Mango Club is a great attraction for party animals, Henry Africa’s Samui is the best pub style bar in the area and The Ark Club – hard to find, but worth looking for – has an excellent line-up of DJs and sells cheap alcohol in buckets.

Food

With a wide selection of street food, bistros and high end restaurants, Koh Samui has become a renowned culinary destination. Visitors can eat in places that serve traditional Thai cuisine, such as green Thai curry, ‘ho muk talay’ – seafood curry cooked in a coconut – or find traditional Thai sweets in the food markets. But there is no need to limit the taste buds to local specialties. The Barrio Latino in Lamai Beach serves authentic Mexican food while playing salsa beats all night long; Café 69 in Bophut is a new experience of fusion cooking that is both baffling and delicious; and The Boudoir in Mae Nam is a cosy restaurant that serves French-style cuisine in Middle-Eastern décor, perfect for couples in search of an intimate evening.

Relaxation
There is no shortage of spas, spa resorts or spa villas in Koh Samui. Yoga, meditation and cleansing are very big in Thailand and Koh Samui is one of the best places to seek rehabilitation and rejuvenation.

The Eranda Herbal Spa is located on a mountainside, so visitors are surrounded by waterfalls and palm trees while they are treated to Thai massages and facials. The Trinity Yoga Studio has classes that improve inner strength, promote balance in the body and generally improve flexibility. There are a variety of small spas that provide the Dr Fish treatment – where little fish nibble away at dead skin cells and leave skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated – for either the feet or the full body.

Activities
Koh Samui is an island with plenty of exquisite beaches, however, sunbathing and swimming are not the only ways to pass the time.

Koh Samui beaches may be famous for their white sand, crystal clear waters and after-dark parties, but during the light of day they offer various water sports and tours. Samui Bungee offers a bungee jump experience in Soi Reggae on Chaweng Beach for anyone looking for an exhilarating activity.

Additionally, guests can take water taxis or ferry tours to other surrounding islands where activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling and kayaking are offered as a package deal. Other activities in Koh Samui include elephant tours, jungle trekking, golf, Thai boxing, quad tours and much more! Book a holiday in Koh Samui to explore everything this stunning island has to offer.

Chaweng is the most popular beach on the east coast of Koh Samui boasting 6 kilometres of white sand packed with a variety of activities to suit every kind of traveller. Here’s a guide to the top 10 things to do in Chaweng.

Wat Jee Kong Chinese Temple
This temple is a historic landmark reminiscent of a time when Chaweng Beach was the primary residence of Chinese immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In this area, visitors can also see old houses, monuments and the vibrant Laem Dim market which sells traditional items, crafts and fabrics. The temple itself is a beautiful golden monument, a true tribute to Chinese architecture.

Wat Khao Hua Juk
Visitors who make the climb up to this temple will be rewarded with panoramic views of Chaweng Beach. This small Buddhist temple is in a serene and tranquil atmosphere, making it perfect for meditating or just relaxing in a calm location. The most famous attraction of this temple, however, is the replica of Buddha’s footprint. On the way uphill, visitors can stop at Nathalie’s Art Palace or the Samui branch of Bangkok’s famous Q Bar.

Chaweng Thai Boxing Stadium
Muay Thai boxing – also known as Siamese street-fighting – is a combat sport in Thailand, characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Generally the stadium hosts fights on Monday and Friday nights, but guests are advised to check the schedule before visiting. If visitors are feeling very adventurous, they can even sign up for a Muay boxing lesson during their visit.

Samui Bungee Jump
For the best, most exhilarating views of Chaweng Beach, visitors should look no further than the Samui Bungee Jump. Enjoy the beautiful view of the emerald green water and white sand, seconds before flying into the clear blue sky, suspended by a fifty metre crane above the deepest swimming pool in Thailand (five metres deep). The operators have been in business for over a decade and have welcomed over 50,000 satisfied customers, offering the cheapest bungee jump experience in Thailand with a 100% safety record.

Major Cineplex
For a break from the Thai heat, the Cineplex in the Tesco Lotus has three theatres under one roof, playing the latest Hollywood movies and local films. The air conditioning is always very low in this venue, so it is advised that visitors bring a cardigan or shawl to keep warm for the duration of the film. Another thing to note is that before every movie starts, the theatre will play the song of the king. It is good manners to stand and pay respect while the song is playing.

Cabarets
There are three different cabarets in Chaweng Beach, all of them providing fun, entertaining nights out with the intriguing Ladyboys that are a cultural staple of Thailand. They are so beautiful and feminine, that many a curious tourist has had difficulty telling whether or not they are really boys. Sing along to classic, cheesy songs from musicals or the 90s and enjoy the stand-up comedy.

Ark Bar
This is considered to be the number one party destination in Samui, with a DJ playing from 2pm at a Pool Party and on until 2am at their Beach Party. Facilities include three swimming pools, two swim-up pool bars, two beach-front restaurants and live music and fire shows. There will never be a need for party animals to leave this amazing hot spot with spectacular views of the ocean and international DJs playing at all hours.

Eranda Herbal Spa
There has never been a more perfect spa location to maximise relaxation and luxury. The Eranda Herbal Spa is located in the mountainside with gorgeous views of the Gulf of Thailand. This spa is the perfect escape from the outside world. Immersed in the beautiful, natural surroundings, there is nothing here to distract from the spa experience. Visitors can choose from massages, facial treatments and body scrubs, all using a selection of natural herbs and oils, while being serenaded by cascading waterfalls, rustling palm trees and gentle Thai music.

Neptune Club
For the more active visitors to the island, Chaweng offers a variety of ways to keep exercising while on holiday. As well as a variety of water sports on the beach, the Neptune Club is a gym that has memberships to suit the duration of any holiday, from a one day pass to a one year membership. It is furnished with cardiovascular and strength training equipment and includes a sauna and Jacuzzi to help unwind after an intense workout.

Trinity Yoga Studio
No rejuvenation holiday is complete without the inner peace that comes from the union of mind, body and spirit. Yoga is the perfect way to achieve this balance as well as a great way to exercise and introduce some new energy into your life. The Trinity Yoga Studio in the Tesco Lotus will teach you a flow of different postures that will enhance balance in the body and improve overall strength and flexibility. When combined with a relaxing spa treatment, this experience will leave visitors rejuvenated.

When travelling to any country, there are a number of customs that should be carefully observed. Here’s a short guide to etiquette in Thailand.

Wai
This is the traditional Thai greeting, much like shaking hands with a client or waving to a neighbour. It is a gesture of respect done by placing the palms of both hands together, as if you were praying, followed by a slight bow. The deeper the bow, the more respect is accorded. There are a lot of subtleties involved in a wai so chances are you won’t get it exactly right. In general, if someone wais you, acknowledge it with a smile and a nod, but your efforts will be appreciated if you do choose to return it. There is no need to wai a child or someone clearly younger than you. Stafff at our villas in Koh Samui will be happy to teach you.

Respect the Monarchy
The Thai people hold the monarchy and their religion in the very highest regard and any disparaging remarks about either will not be well-received. Also, do not show any disrespect to any images of the Buddha – it is perfectly acceptable to take pictures, but we advise guests not to climb or sit on them.

Shoes
Shoes should be removed when visiting homes, temples and family-owned businesses but keep them on in high footfall areas such as malls, restaurants or anywhere you are likely to find broken glass. Some shops put up signs saying yes/no shoes, but if you’re unsure just poke your head in and ask. Showing respect to this custom will be greatly appreciated by the locals.

Be Aware of Your Body
Westerners do a lot of these without realising, so pay close attention. Don’t put feet on furniture or gesture with them. Do not touch anyone’s head – Thais believe it is the most important part of the body and it deserves the most respect. Do not point, but if you must gesture do so with all four fingers extended and the thumb flat against the palm. Dress appropriately – keep your shoulders and knees covered in temple, do not expose yourself or sunbathe topless and breastfeeding should be done out of public view.

Tipping
Tipping is a relatively new concept in Thailand so taxi drivers and villa staff won’t be expecting it and they may even find it embarrassing. Restaurants may add a service charge, but in smaller ones discreet tipping for lunch or dinner (10 baht per head) may be appreciated.

Be Happy
Thailand is a place where people are happy and relaxed, therefore you should avoid negativity by trying not to raise your voice in either anger or jest. Villas in Koh Samui are simply stunning and the island is exquisite – we doubt you’ll be able to wipe the smile off your face!

The wildlife in Koh Samui is as diverse as the island itself – and you needn’t go all the way to a zoo to see it!

You’re sure to spot plenty of native creatures during your Koh Samui vacation, here’s a short guide to making the most of what you see on your travels…

Dogs

There are plenty of stray dogs in Koh Samui however they are relatively friendly and won’t bother you unless you particularly want to seek them out.

These dogs are very independent and do not require tourists to feed them, shelter them or pet them.

You may see a lot of them, so just consider them a part of the scenery.

Elephants, Crocodiles & Wild Monkeys

Take a jungle tour and experience the wonder of Koh Samui’s rich exotic wildlife.

These exhilarating tours are taken atop an elephant as you trek to spot other incredible creatures such as baby elephants, crocodiles and wild monkeys.

You can also enjoy the exquisite scenery and take some super photographs along the way.

Samui Aquarium and Tiger Show

The Samui Aquarium features almost every sea life creature and fish native to the Gulf of Thailand from nurse sharks to manta rays and schools of vibrant tropical fish.

Visitors can even get involved with feeding the sea turtles.

Koh Samui zoo is home to Bengal tigers, leopards and other wild creatures. Enjoy live daily shows.

Snakes
Koh Samui has around 200 species of snakes but the poisonous ones – such as king cobras – should be found deep in the jungle and not near human habitation.

When walking in the jungle it’s wise to stick to the beaten path and avoid searching through the bushes and trees.

If you happen to find a snake slithering in your villa garden it may be best not to try to pick it up.

Geckos

These quirky little creatures are truly harmless and are a common sight in Koh Samui.

You will find them on walls, ceilings and hanging around lamps in order to catch insects attracted to light.

The largest gecko you will see is the Tookay, which can be as long as your hand, excluding the tail.

In general, the gecko will be your best friend on your Koh Samui vacation as they eat mosquitos.

However, do not try to corner or grab them because they can bite if they feel threatened. It is best to leave them be and be grateful that they keep mosquitos at bay.

Scorpions, Mosquitos and Other Insects

Aside from snakes, the land creatures you should most watch out for are scorpions and centipedes.

These creature are impressive to spot but for safety, always remember to shake out your shoes before putting them on and keep them inside overnight to prevent them from becoming nesting grounds.

Also, do not assume that the geckos will be your only effective defence against mosquitos.

Take precautions such as using a very good insect repellent both at night and during the day.

Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand just 80 km from the eastern coastline of Southern Thailand. At 25 km long and 21 km wide, Samui is big enough for some serious exploration but can be circumnavigated in just a couple of hours by motorbike or car.

Koh Samui is an island of stunning natural beauty, home to around 40,000 inhabitants most of whom are Buddhist. The palm-fringed shoreline and coconut and fruit cultivation of the coastal areas rise to a central mountainous peak with slopes cloaked in rich rainforest. Koh Samui’s towns and resorts fringe the coastal areas, theses are essentially a collection of beaches divided by rolling headlands and connected by a single ring road which is approximately 30 miles around.

To the northeast of the island is Samui Airport, known as the most beautiful in the world, there’s also an array of towns to discover here. Head further south along the ring road and you’ll see rich mountainous rainforest and valleys of rice paddies stretching as far as the eye can see. Visitors can drive around the island in a few hours however discovering off road areas and secret beaches will take far longer.

Koh Samui is home to a wide variety of beaches, the most popular and commercialised being Chaweng and Lamai. The more northern beaches and their adjacent villages of Bophut, Bang Rak, Choeng Mon and Mae Nam are far more peaceful, while the west coast beaches are probably the quietest on the island.

To help you get your bearings, clockwise from Nathon on the west coast, the main beaches are:

- Nathon – Samui’s port and administrative centre.

- Laem Yai – On the northwest tip of the island, a small secluded beach overlooking Ang Thong.

- Mae Nam – A beautiful peaceful beach on the northern coast.

- Bophut - Best known for its fisherman’s village, this is a large relaxed beach growing in popularity.

- Bang Rak – Located at the northeastern tip, Bank Rak is home to the renowned Big Buddha Temple in Koh Samui.

- Choeng Mon – A quiet north shore beach with powder white sands.

- Chaweng – The largest and most commercial beach.

- Lamai – Samui’s second largest beach south of Chaweng.

- Samui South Coast – Home to the small beaches of Ban Hua Thanon, Na Khai, Laem Set, Bang Kao and Thong Krut.

Despite its relatively small size, Koh Samui is the largest island in the Chumphon Archipelago which consists of around 80 islands which form the Ang Thong Marine Park, a kayaking and snorkeling paradise. To put it into perspective Koh Samui is approximately Seychelles-sized, with similar proportions to metropolitan London or Sydney.

Until the late 20th century, Samui was a self-sufficient community with little connection with the mainland of Thailand. Roads were not built on the island until around 1970, before which the journey from one side of the island to the other involved a full day trek through the rolling central jungles.

For years Koh Samui only attracted a trickle of tourists however things started to change in the 1990s when tourists started arriving in droves, since then Koh Samui has grown substantially. Samui is now one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations with its world famous spas, sumptuous restaurants, world class golf course, fabulous shopping and entertainment options. Koh Samui villas offer the perfect accommodation, all located in the most beautiful spots and within easy reach of everything the island has to offer.

The Koh Samui Archipelago is probably the nearest you’ll ever get to paradise. The Archipelago, a phrase used to describe a cluster of islands, includes the ever popular Koh Samui plus two other exotic isles and a national marine park.

Head to this area in the Thai Gulf for exquisite beaches and breath-taking beauty.

Koh Samui

The boutique island of Koh Samui is known as one of Thailand’s most popular vacation destinations.

Boasting its own airport, a wide variety of bars and restaurants and an array of excellent villas, Koh Samui is sure to fulfil all your vacation dreams.

The beaches here are some of the best in the world offering visitors warm water, powder white sand and plenty of palm trees. Samui’s rich rainforest interior consists of mostly mountains and jungle, offering excellent opportunities to explore.

Koh Phangan

Famed for its unspoilt beaches, full moon parties and mini beach raves, Koh Phangan has earned its reputation as a place to let loose and go wild.

The second largest island in the Koh Samui Archipelago, Koh Phangan may be known for its parties but there are plenty of beaches and resorts where you can relax away from the weekend action.

There is songthaew service from the main pier in Thongsala to the island’s most popular beaches. Visitors can also rent a motorbike or jeep to get around.

There are no direct flights to Koh Phangan, but you can fly into Samui from Bangkok then take a short ferry trip over. Haad Rin beach is party central but there are plenty of other beaches in Koh Phangan for those in search of more seclusion.

Koh Tao

Beachgoers, divers and explorers will simply love this charming rugged island.

The popular beach areas are on the west side whilst the interior is less developed and perfect for some serious exploring. Sairee Beach is Koh Tao’s largest and most popular beach.

Stretching for about a mile long, Sairee is home to plenty of restaurants, bars and resorts. Koh Tao is just three miles from top to bottom and can be a challenge to get around due to its rugged roads. Songthaews and boats are available from Mae Haad Beach to most other parts of the island for around 50-200 Baht.

Visitors can also rent a motorbike to get around. Getting to Koh Tao is easy either by ferry from the mainland or from Koh Samui. Or take a direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui, then take a ferry from Samui to Koh Tao in less than 2 hours.

Angthong Marine Park

The Koh Samui Archipelago consists of three island’s which are actually part of the Angthong National Marine Park.

Known as one of Thailand’s most beautiful protected areas there are around 42 separate islands and cays that make up the park. Most are very small and can only be visited on day trips, although a few offer visitors the opportunity to camp or stay over in designated bungalows.

The best way to see the national park is to arrange a day trip from Koh Samui which can be easily arranged all over the island. Easily accessed by speedboat or slow boat from Koh Samui, the Angthong National Marine Park is a great place to explore both on land and by water with snorkelling, kayaking, walking and hiking tours.

Have you been to the Koh Samui Archipelago?

With so much to do and see on these beautiful islands, it is little wonder that many who visit once return again and again.

Have you been to any of the islands mentioned above? If so we’d love to hear about your experiences! Why not share on Facebook, Twitter or Google+

The boutique island of Koh Samui is exotic, interesting and unforgettable which is why it’s fast becoming one of the most popular vacation destinations for tourists and travellers all over the world. Here’s a guide to why so many travellers book a vacation in Koh Samui.

A Magical Coastline

With endless miles of powder white sands and sparkling seas the coastline in Koh Samui isn’t just beautiful, it’s a real love affair. Boats are everywhere in Koh Samui, from simple fishing boats to ferries to exotic sailboats and catamarans that seem to glide too easily in the cool island breeze. Exploring Koh Samui by boat means you’ll hum over the turquoise and uncover offshore islands that seem as if they’ve never been touched. Taking a boat trip in Koh Samui will allow you access to private beaches for picnics and secluded swimming. Taking to the water also offer the promise of underwater adventures like snorkelling or diving. Most boats come complete with delicious cold drinks, food and a highly trained crew to make sure your time on the water is as memorable as on the land.

To Infinity and Beyond

Luxury villas in Koh Samui come complete with some of the finest infinity pools in Thailand, with views that are simply sensational.

Not only is Koh Samui one of the most beautiful islands on earth – it is also one of the safest. The culture is friendly and family orientated meaning children of all ages are welcome. Read on for our list of things to do in Koh Samui with family.

Variety
When entertaining children there’s nothing truer than the saying ‘variety is the spice of life’. You may want to laze on the beach all day but your children certainly won’t – they’ll want a change of scenery and plenty of activities to keep them entertained. Plan days that include something for all the family, that way everyone enjoys a bit of what they want. Enjoy a few beach days and incorporate some swimming, snorkelling, water sports or a boat trip. Children love the great outdoors so take them exploring, on an elephant tour or a trip to Koh Samui’s fantastic temples.

Family-Friendly Locations
Koh Samui boasts plenty of family-friendly locations however these can become more adult orientated when the sun goes down. Though Koh Samui is safe, you may not want to expose young children to the lively nightlife so make sure you know which places are child-friendly at any time of day. Older children and teenagers will enjoy Chaweng with its great shopping and eating, busy beach and excellent entertainment. The best beaches for families with young children are Mae Nam and Bo Phut both offering gentle waves, footpaths wide enough for strollers and other families to provide playmates.

Food for all the Family
There are plenty of restaurants in Koh Samui offering a variety of cuisines that cater for young palates. Thai food is often spicy however rice, pasta, noodles and mild dishes are widely available across the island. When planning day trips prepare with a few snacks and bottled water in advance available at Samui’s Tesco Lotus, Top Markets and convenience stores. It may be wise to avoid buying food for children from street vendors and it may be heavily spiced and unsuitable for sensitive stomachs.

Animal Encounters
You will find an array of child-friendly animal encounters in Koh Samui. Try Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo, the Samui Butterfly Garden or Na Muang Safari Park or an afternoon of elephant riding. The Snake Farm is a thrilling spectacle where guests of all ages can spot some of Thailand’s most fearsome reptiles. The Samui Snake Farm features daily shows featuring king cobras, giant pythons, centipedes and scorpions. The Snake Farm is home to a reptile zoo where visitors can handle ‘safe’ snake breeds.

Koh Samui villas
Our villas come equipped with everything you will need for young and old alike. Most homes feature private pools, gorgeous gardens and lots of luxury living space for kids to explore and enjoy. Many luxury villas boast state-of-the-art entertainment facilities including home cinemas, games rooms, computer consoles and free wifi throughout. Villa staff can be arranged to cater for all the family, with extra babysitting services available on request. The locals are renowned for being wonderful with children so you can rest assured during your Koh Samui vacation with kids.

The Koh Samui weather is known for its gorgeous climate with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C throughout the year.

The island has its own hot, dry and rainy seasons which may affect when you’ll want to visit and what you’ll want to do. Be sure to read our handy guide to the weather in Koh Samui before you book your trip.

The Dry Season in Koh Samui

The best time to visit Koh Samui is during the dry season, which typically starts in December and continues through to February.

During the dry season temperatures are slightly cooler and more comfortable than during the hottest times of the year. Expect long warm days with plenty of sun and balmy sea breezes – only the odd light shower occurs although nothing to waylay any planned vacation activities.

The dry season in Koh Samui boasts calmer seas making it the perfect time for snorkelling, diving, sailing and other water sports.

Koh Samui’s Hot Season

If you like it really warm then March through to August is the time to visit Koh Samui. The days during the hot season can be sweltering, which is great for sun worshippers and those who enjoy water sports.

The odd late afternoon thunderstorm should be expected however these are always welcome as they help to reduce the high humidity. If you are planning to embark on strenuous land-based activities during your trip you may prefer to visit Koh Samui during the more temperate peak season. Beach lovers however are in for a treat during these months.

The Rainy Season in Koh Samui

September marks the start of Koh Samui’s rainy season but those who understand the island will know the endless benefits of travelling during this neglected time of year. During the low season Thailand turns lush, fresh and vibrant, this time of year can also be the mildest, most relaxing and tranquil time to travel.

There are fewer tourists in the resorts, prices are cheaper and the service is better. The low season brings a welcome break from the humidity of the hotter months, and the quieter beaches, towns and tourist attractions are easier to explore.

It doesn’t rain every day during this season, the weather is just more unpredictable and there are more cloudy days however temperatures are still in the high 20′s and there’s usually sunshine every day – this season typically lasts until November.

Diving is not ideal during this time as the water will be murky however rates are at their lowest during the rainy season, and many island activities won’t be affected by the rain. Bear in mind that when it comes to the weather during this time rainy days are often balanced by plenty of sunshine and blue skies with rain tending to fall in sharp bursts.

When to Travel to Koh Samui?

When travelling to Koh Samui the most important thing to remember is that Koh Samui is known for its gorgeous weather!

The island is warm and sun-drenched for most months of the year, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, exploring and soaking up the warmth. Koh Samui villas are the ideal home from home during a Koh Samui vacation offering spectacular accommodation close to all the island’s attractions.

Boasting sun, sea and miles of powder-white sands, Koh Samui is every beach lover’s dream. This picture-perfect island is fringed with some of the best beaches in the world, with each offering something slightly different from the next.

Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui

There are six main beaches in Koh Samui, spanning across the island’s north and eastern coasts. Chaweng and Lamai on the east side are by far the liveliest with an array of activities and entertainment at any time of the day or night. The northern beaches of Big Buddha, Bo Phut, Choeng Mon and Mae Nam are more peaceful, boasting an abundance of tropical island charm. Whether you’re in search of a tranquil treat or bustling beach buzz, Koh Samui’s diverse bays offer something to suit all tastes. Here’s a handy guide to help you find the best beach in Koh Samui…

Chaweng Beach
The renowned Chaweng is Koh Samui’s most popular tourist resort. Here you will find an endless array of shops, hotels, restaurants and bars as well as the longest beach on the island. Chaweng Beach is divided into three diverse sections, all with their own charm and delights. The northern end is the quietest part with a stunning sandy headland and a shallow channel separating the main beach from the smaller island of Koh Matlang. Many luxury villas in Koh Samui are located here; just a stone’s throw the warm shallow waters and palm-fringed shore.

The central area of the beach is most popular with tourists. Expect sun bathers and beach vendors galore, with water sports equipment to rent from an array of outlets along the main strip. Entertainment is on offer both night and day, with live music, Thai dancing and many bars to enjoy. There are plenty of beachside restaurants to choose from, most providing cushions on the sand for a guests to lay back and enjoy the atmosphere.

The south end of the beach is the widest part and hosts many of the island’s events including the annual Samui Regatta. A few steps away from the sand is Chaweng’s main strip where you’ll find 5 kilometres of shops and stalls, restaurants and bars, pharmacies, opticians, supermarkets and more.

Lamai Beach
For those in search of something a little more family-friendly, Lamai Beach is one of the best beaches in Koh Samui. Known as the second most popular beach on the island after Chaweng, this sweeping bay stretches as far as the world famous Hin Ta and Hin Ya formations. To the north of the beach is Tong Takian Bay, set amidst lush green mountains; a stunning spot to explore for locals and visitors alike.

The town itself sits back around 100 metres from the main beach, offering an excellent selection of shops and services. Lamai nightlife is not for the faint-hearted, with plenty of bars and nightlife located in the middle of the main street. Restaurants can be found in abundance, with something to suit all tastes and budgets. There are plenty of gorgeous Koh Samui villas located in Lamai, conveniently situated in private developments yet close to the bustle and facilities nearby. Lamai boats an array of attractions including temples, a small zoo and charming local villages and stunning viewpoints to explore.

Bangrak Beach
Also known as Big Buddha Beach, this bay is named after Ko Samui’s famed 12-metre Buddha statue towering overhead. The beach here is located on the northeast coast just a short drive from Chaweng, although the atmosphere here is far calmer. Bangrak boasts wide undulating sands lined with resorts, restaurants and shops. As with all of Koh Samui, it’s easy to find water sports vendors and tour operators offering energetic activities in abundance. From here visitors can take a boat across to Koh Pha Ngan for the full moon party or visit the enormous Big Buddha statue which can be seen by air on arrival to the island.

Bophut Beach
Bophut Beach is the perfect peaceful spot during a Koh Samui holiday. Located far from the madding crowd Bophut is also known as Fisherman’s Village – a traditional and well preserved part of Koh Samui. The centre of the beach is home to an array of charming wooden houses, perfectly in keeping with the natural surroundings. The beach itself stretches for more than two miles, boasting immaculate powder white sands and rows of tropical coconut palms. A small number of boats are still used for fishing here and Bophut is known for its laid-back family-friendly allure. The village itself is great to explore with an excellent selection of bars and eateries, plus a ‘walking street’ event every Friday featuring live music and performances plus food, clothes and jewellery stalls.

Mae Nam Beach
Perhaps the prettiest beach in Koh Samui, Mae Nam is a must-see spot during your Koh Samui vacation. This tranquil bay is one of the most picturesque places on the island with fine gold sand, an azure ocean and a perfect view of Koh Pha Ngan in the distance. Mae Nam is a remote beach, perfect for lazing the days away in the warm Samui sun. At the west end is the Wat Na Phra Lan temple, great for sightseeing. There’s also the Lomprayah Pier, with regular boats trips over to Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan. The stunning John’s Garden is a great spot to eat, particularly popular with couples and honeymooners. Mae Nam also hosts a weekly ‘walking street’ selling snacks, clothing, jewellery and much more. This beach is also the closest to Nathon, the administrative centre of Koh Samui.

Choeng Mon Beach
Nestled in the far northeast corner of Koh Samui, Choeng Mon Beach is best known for its quiet, secluded bays. Home to some of the best accommodation in Koh Samui, this area is popular with couples, families and the more discerning luxury traveller. The main beach is one of the best beaches in Koh Samui, with plenty of water sports options and kayak trips over to Koh Fan Yai island. Away from the beach are a few fantastic restaurants and great resorts for drinking and dining in Choeng Mon. Chaweng in the south and Bophut and Big Buddha Beach to the west are easily accessible for those in search of a more active itinerary. Songthaews operate here, as do taxis, for guests looking to visit other parts of the island – alternatively motorbike and car hire in Koh Samui can easily be arranged.

Koh Samui may be best known for its sun, sea, sand and sights, but this stunning tropical island is also known for its currency – the Thai Baht.

Issued by the Bank of Thailand, the Thai Baht is Koh Samui’s official tender, rated as one of the strongest currencies in Southeast Asia.

Thai Baht

Like the British Pound the Thai Baht originated from a traditional unit of silver and is thought to have been in use from as early as the Sukhothai period (1238 – 1438) in the form of Phot Duang bullet coins. These unique solid silver pieces were produced to various weights corresponding to their value.

The first Thai King to consider a flat coin was Rama III after he learned of flat copper coins being used in Singapore in 1835. King Rama III is thought to have contacted a Scottish trader known in England for his experimental coins – however the King rejected the Scot’s designs. In 1860 modern style coins were introduced issued in gold, silver and copper, denominated by their weight in Baht and its fractions and multiples.

In 1892 the Thai treasury issued banknotes in various values; shortly afterwards the government introduced notes printed by British company Thomas De La Rue & Company Ltd. Notes were issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 100 and 1000 baht featuring both Arabic, British and Thai numerals. These were referred to as ticals by English speakers.

The Bank of Thailand was founded in 1942, taking over the issuance of paper money in Southeast Asia. The Thai Baht had previously had a history of consistent change with various coin and note styles being amended over the years. However the founding of the Bank of Thailand helped to stabilise the future of the Baht.

In 2008 the Ministry of Finance and the Royal Thai Mint announced the 2009 coin series, which features an updated image to a more recent portrait of the King. The two Baht coin was the first of the new series to be released in February 2009, followed by the Satang coin, the five Baht coin, the ten Baht coin and the one Baht coin in July 2009.

In 2012, the Bank of Thailand issued a new denomination banknote – the 80 Baht note – to commemorate Queen Sirikit’s 80th birthday. This note was the first Thai banknote to feature Crane’s Motion security thread.

Today, the Thai Baht is Thailand’s official currency, with one Baht subdivided into 100 Satang. The currency features notes ranging from 20 – 1000 Baht in green, blue, red, purple and brown. Baht coins are mostly made of cupro-nickel in denominations of 1, 2, 5, and 10.

Unlike Laos and Cambodia, you won’t be able to pay with foreign currencies in Koh Samui – only Baht is accepted. However bureaux de change and ATM’ s are widely available across the island, at all banks and convenience stores, only a short distance from any of our Koh Samui villas.

Nestled in a sheltered spot in the clear blue Thai Gulf, Koh Samui is one of the most popular diving destinations in the world.

Perfectly located close to the exquisite Ang Thong Marine Park, Koh Samui boasts a wealth of stunning scuba diving spots offering warm water and clear views of the island’s amazing marine life.

Hawksbill Turtle Koh Samui

An array of underwater life abounds around the island’s towering sea pinnacles, rock formations and rich coral reefs. Divers can expect to spot an array of exotic fish and coral species including hawksbill turtles, trigger fish, whale sharks, multi-coloured coral and an abundance of reef fish.

Diving in Koh Samui is one of the many reasons to visit this tropical paradise, popular with divers of all ages and experience levels. Koh Samui and its sister island Koh Tao boast some of the best diving sites in Thailand, with short, accredited courses easily available and especially affordable. A wide range of dive operators offer instruction for all levels as well as courses conducted in multiple languages.

Most diving operators in Koh Samui are located close to the beach with snorkel and dive trips taking place in the calm, shallow waters around Chaweng, Coral Cove and Bophut Beaches to name just a few. Visibility can vary between 10 – 30 metres with mainly calm currents on most sides of the island except during the monsoon months.

Just a short boat ride away are world-class dive sites at Ang Thong Marine Park, Sail Rock and Sairee Beach in Koh Tao. Crystal clear waters, an abundance of marine life and miles of protected coral reef makes these areas some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the world. Wall diving is definitely on the menu here with numerous exceptional walls, gulleys and channels to explore.

One of the best dive sites in Koh Samui is Koh Yippon, located in the far north of the Ang Thong Marine Park. This exquisite island is ranked as one of the best diving destinations in the world with its plethora of stunning soft and hard corals, underwater wildlife and caves and crevices to explore. The abundant eco system around the island is home to large snappers, stingrays, yellow tailed barracuda and blue ringed angel fish. Due to its relatively shallow waters Koh Yippon is ideal for beginners, and offers calm waters even during the monsoon season due to its sheltered location.

Dragon Island in Koh Samui’s north-west point is famous for its gold and purple coral sponges, whale sharks, huge hawksbill turtles and hoards of tropical fish. As the name suggest the island resembles the shape of a dragon and is truly magical both above and below the water line. In the shallow water and protected bay there is a wealth of water world to discover. Dives here range from shallow to deep with more than enough exotic life to spot in all depths.

Known for its legendary diving and clear calm waters, Koh Samui is the perfect destination for a diving vacation.
If you are setting off on holiday to Thailand you may be quick to pick the regular destinations like Bangkok and Phuket, but nestled in the gulf of Thailand is the island gem of Koh Samui.

A holiday in Koh Samui has the best Thai offerings wrapped in a small island feel and topped with untouched natural beauty and tranquillity that may be lacking in other Thai destinations.

Sunset in Koh Samui

By scheduling Koh Samui in your holiday itinerary you will not be disappointed by the culture, cuisine, holiday activities and laid back atmosphere that makes this island so popular amongst the more enthusiastic traveller. A holiday in Koh Samui has much to offer; from five star hotels, luxurious villas and world renowned restaurants to trips to quaint fishing villages, hikes in the mountainous centre of the island or long relaxing walks on the white sandy beaches.

While a holiday in Koh Samui is often marketed for its natural beauty, the island has undergone significant development in recent years to ensure that you have access to all the facilities and services necessary for an enjoyable hotel. Samui International Airport provides flights to and from major Southeast Asian destinations, like Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, allowing you to bypass Bangkok and avoiding costly charters or cramped sea ferries. If you want to avoid the monotony of another hotel, holiday villas in Koh Samui range from the more expensive beach villas with a private gourmet chef on call to the budget friendly self-catering apartments with picturesque ocean views.

A holiday would not be complete without shopping and local entertainment and Koh Samui has a great choice on offer, especially if you opt for the more popular towns like Chaweng or Lamai. From the 12 metre high golden Big Buddha to the Ang Thong National Marine Park, Koh Samui has sufficient sights and sounds to captivate every traveller’s interest. A holiday in Koh Samui will ensure that you taste some of Thailand’s abundant seafood, with fishing villages dotting the entire Koh Samui coastline.

Try to avoid booking a last minute getaway to this stunning island. A pre-booked holiday in Koh Samui will ensure that you experience the white sandy beaches, clear blue waters and coconut studded coastline that has made Koh Samui the idyllic island getaway.
