Antica Locanda in Bang Rak

Antica Locanda in Bang Rak

If you are looking for a satisfying night of relaxing conversation, delicious food and a laid-back atmosphere, Antica Locanda is a great family restaurant and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome from Stefano Giacomelli the owner and executive chef. This is the perfect venue when you fancy a change from local Thai cuisine, the restaurant boasts all the Italian classics, from a vast range of delicious pizzas to fresh local seafood dishes. The antipasti and cured meats are imported direct from Italy to create an authentic flavour of the Mediterranean.

The menu at Antica Locanda is extensive and caters to most tastes, so for picky eaters, families or large groups there will be plenty of choice. The menu includes its large pizza selection (the website boasts that this restaurant has the largest pizza menu in the islands with over 20 recipes) a broad range of fish dishes such as smoked salmon and clams, and a wide range of carne dishes to satisfy meat eaters. There are also some tempting vegetarian options, including gnocchi and pasta. The portion sizes are generous and the laid back atmosphere encourages tasting new things and sharing among friends.

The décor of the interior is understated and relaxed, so you won’t feel out of place eating here in the day or early evening with your family, yet later on the atmosphere becomes more adult and wine flows freely. Talking of wine, there is an excellent choice to suit all pockets with a carafe of the house red being particularly popular. Service is friendly and efficient, and much like the rest of the island there are English-speaking staff to assist you

In terms of value, prices are mid-range for Thailand – but for ‘farangs’ who are used to paying double for food of this quality, you won’t feel short-changed. This is a popular eating venue with the local expatriate community and tourists in the know, so book early to make sure you get a table. Antica Locanda is open every day other than monday from lunchtime until late and takeaway is also available

There are some very special dishes at Antica Locanda that we can highly recommend. A starter of Vongole alla Marinara, or ‘sauteed clams in white wine and extra virgin olive oil’, gets rave reviews and is a perfect combination of local produce and traditional Italian recipes. Whereas the main of Saltimbocca alla Romana, a veal escalope wrapped in prosciutto with fresh sage leaves, flambeed and served in a creamy sauce’ is another Italian classic guaranteed to impress.

For a great taste of the Meditteranean in truly tropical surroundings, Antica Locanda ticks all the boxes. Why not visit Bang Rak and see for yourself !
